There is a very special place in Rhodes Town that is dear to our heart. We first arrived to Spirit of the Knights in June 2014 where Felicity Marshall, a British mosaic artist decided to restore a 14th century crusader mansion in the Medieval town of Rhodes along with her son, Alex. There are six beautiful bedrooms each with its own quirkiness and a courtyard garden – a small outdoor oasis where you can eat your ‘made to order’ breakfast, read a book, sunbathe and cool off in the whirlpool bath. We have returned several times to find it is run in the same relaxed, family way by Elena in tribute to her husband’s vision.

Though there are many places to enjoy Greek hospitality – good food, a cooling drink, wonderful warm ambience – our favourite place to eat is a walled garden hidden away in a cobbled alleyway with no sign just a step into a small sitting room leading up to the Marco Polo – another renovated mansion (Turkish 15th century). They have a menu . . . but often they will start talking through the day’s ‘options’ . . . !! And the food . . . well worth the visit (but their fame has spread so book ahead.)

But enough . . . what about the photographs? For us, we like nothing more than wandering round the alleyways trying to find that particular place; it can be different looking at it through a lens. Here too, the Greek hospitality kicked in. Some random guy saw us with the tripod et al and said . . . I have a place upstairs (Decan Concept Estate)- perfect view of Rhodes Town. And he was right . . . along with a fantastic terrace . . . and a couple of gin and tonics . . . a good night.
